2025 marks the 200th anniversary of Robert Owen's purchase of New Harmony, Indiana.
To commemorate this important event, Historic New Harmony convened a committee earlier this year to start planning a community-wide Owen-Maclure Experiment Bicentennial Celebration. This committee is composed of representatives from New Harmony organizations and businesses, the University of Southern Indiana, town residents, and Owen family descendants.
On May 1 (the date when the Constitution for the Preliminary Society was established in 1825), the Bicentennial Committee in New Harmony collaborated with Heritage Hub 4 Mid Wales and the Robert Owen Museum in Newtown, Wales, to kick-off the celebration over Zoom. Newtown is the birthplace of Robert Owen, and that community is also celebrating the anniversary of Robert Owen's experiment in New Harmony.
